From Block of Wood to Fish Carving


15 Steps to Creating a World Class Bass

1. Create the design for the fish and base.
2. Choose a block of wood, transfer fish pattern to the wood and rough cut it.
3. Begin carving the general shape of the fish.
4. Carve details of the body, fins and face.
5. Finish sand the carving.
6. Wood burn the scales, fins and face details.
7. Seal the carving with lacquer.
8. Attach fins and eyes with epoxy.
9. Primer the entire carving.
10. Apply base coats of paint with airbrush.
11. Rub scales with charcoal to darken outside edges.
12. Add pattern details and markings with airbrush.
13. Apply finishing tints and iridescence on the body of the fish with airbrush.
14. Brush on gloss coat of clear acrylic.
15. Attach carving to base.
